The klaxon light whirred into action as it started to flash bright red against the hard walls of the 1st Engineer Battalion's barracks. Only fractions of a moment later, the loud warning siren kicked off. The battalion had only just been reformed and its roster still being filled, but High Command took no time in putting them right back into the thick of it.
Almost as if on queue Major Andyrs stepped from his private room in the back of the barracks, polarity gun in hand. The weapon always seemed pretty massive for most, but the he was no small man, so it fit just right. Clearly the weapon was already charging as he looked around the squad bay for the rest of his crew, but even more disturbing was that he was already armored and fit for battle.
“Out of your racks! Get up and move!” He bellowed above the sirens. “You have sixty seconds to be in armor and geared for combat!”

Ed hadn't lost his edge, or his knack for light sleeping. Even coming from a sound sleep, when teh siren went off, Ed was on his feet and clambering into his graviton armor before the Major's last bark finished resounding through the barracks. He shook himself, hard, to settle it with the ease of long practice. He grabbed his rocket launcher and flamethrower from the rack by his bunk and automatically checked them. Of course since they hadn't moved since he had cleaned them and then placed them in the rack they were fine. Lastly he shrugged into his rucksack. While far smaller than a ruck from Earth militaries, it had almost all the same things food and water specifically. In Ed's case, the ruck was just a little bit different, a hidden compartment held his ammo and a seperate compartment a very secure comm. Per regulations he did NOT load his weapons while in the barracks, he also did not secure his helmet, but let it hang loose at his belt. Otherwise he was ready for combat at the 45 second mark.

Jade's eyes shot open. After a split-second that she took to realise where and when she was, she shoved the cover away and jumped out of the bunk. Reaching for he footlocker she retrieved the newly painted stealth armor and began putting it on, zipping all the parts in haste, she took her helmet and gave the bug-like goggles on it an angry stare.
She followed Kalenath to the rack and picked up a rifle and ammo. |

"Alright Ladies! You heard the Major!" She yelled as she entered through the front door of the barracks. Fully armored in Grav. Armor minus the helmet she had on a green beret. The green beret almost looked strange against the abnormal color of her hair or the silver glint of her eyes.
Activating her Staff she slams the butt of it down on the ground making a resounding noise. With a nod to the Major she walks up to each of the soldiers under her command and does a quick 3 second inspection of them. Once she had pass over all of them she calls out to the Major. "Alpha Company Ready Sir!"

With a slight nod of his head, "Take your post Lt. Lightwind." Reaching behind his back, he locks his weapon to his armor and releases it. With purposeful steps he walks up to Kalenath, "You think you've got what it takes to be in the 1st, Rct. Kalenath? Think you can keep up with your Major?" His eyes shift down the line of members of Alpha Company, challenging them all.
This was clearly not the Major they were introduced to. Though his actions of the previous day were merely more calm, his tone of voice wasn't any different. He gave respect to those around him, but it was obvious he kept a tight running unit and expected them to work for it. All the more so as those new faces quickly realized that it was still dark out and the readout on the wall read: 04:27. |

Taking up position a little to the left of the front doors resting the end of her staff on the ground while holding on to the other end. Holding herself in that position utterly still. While here silver eyes dart from one member of her company to the next taking them in.

Ed kept his eyes on the bulkhead. With his peripheral vision he saw his squadmates formed up and his LT in front of him.
"YES SIR!" he barked. And the time of day was nothing to him, he routinely worked on less than 5 hours sleep. It didn't faze him much. Just another perk of being a receptive, he thought to himself grimly.

With a slightly sadistic grin, "We'll see, Rct. We'll see." Turning his attention to Lightwind, "Lt. get them outside, full gear. No motor assist, we're going for a little jog." Walking towards the exit of the barracks he looks back, "Better hope your water supply is full."
Stepping out of the barracks he dons his helmet. |

Slaming down the staff once more she yells out "What are you doing?!? Get your asses in GEAR!"

"uh oh." Ed spoke under his breath. He had never been in the military, but he had known lot of people who had... He thanked GOD he had double checked his armor stores last night. And emptied the bladder...
He reached into his footlocker and found enough extra gear to make 50 lbs, made space and put all of it in his ruck. He shouldered his ruck again and waited. It wasn't heavy for the moment but if the CO's parting comment had meant anything... He was glad he worked out regularly in graviton. He pitied the people who were used to motor assist. This could get brutal. He grinned.

Elona woke up feeling like her face had been recently stomped on by a giant alien death machine. Which it had. She put on her stealth armor and grabbed her old helmet - the new one had an unfortunate alien-foot-sized dent on the left side - before slinging her ammo pack and rifle. There was no howling raid siren, so in the part of her mind that was sure there had been a time not too long ago when her head didn't hurt, she deduced that this was just a drill.

Ed looks at Elona then looks closer. He whispers to her.
"Psst. Specialist Mornn... You ok? You look white as a new set of medic armor."

She blinked upod hearing the shouts of the officer. Jade chose to wear her tight stealth helmet in order not to stare to much, looking for answers she wouldn't get as a recruit. She chose a pulse gun along with a compact shotgun to complete the gear and nodded at her squadmates.
"I do hope we survive this...somehow" |

Only giving a few minutes for them to pack their gear and get ready, Andyrs yells from outside. "1st Engineers! Fall in! If you're not here most riki-tik, we're going to add kilometers to our little jog."
A few of the early risers, though used to some of the military lifestyle, give a small look to the bleary eyed 1st Engineers. Some grinned and some shook their heads, but all realized that what is going to happen wasn't going to be very fun.

Ed looked at the various sour and/or gleeful looks and grinned. Brutal was nothing new to him. Brutal was where he lived. He just hoped he would be standing after this...
He jogged out, took his proper position and braced to attention.

"You heard the Major!" bending over and picking one soldier that had fallen up and throwing him back to his feet.
Stalking outside she walks up and down the front of where the troops are falling in at. stopping every now and then to look at a soldier take their weapon look it over and explain their failure as a soldier to each of them, which she found something wrong with their weapons.

He almost defied her mentally to find something wrong with HIS weapons. But he caught himself. No telling which officers have telepathy...
His flamethrower and rocket launcher positively gleamed under thier nonreflective finish. His backup projectors, one EMP and the other a poison gas sprayer, were equally spotless.

Jade stood still at attention. Her eyes were narrowed by the fading sleepiness, but she tried her best to shake it off. Having a chaingun on her back, as well with a compact EMP rifle, and a pistol strapped to her thigh, she waited for Lt Lightwind to examine her gear.
